Player Code of Conduct
This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all players participating in Lowell Youth Lacrosse (LYL).
As a player, I agree to:
Respect the Game
• Follow the rules of lacrosse and the principles of fair play.
• Treat teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators with courtesy and respect, regardless of skill level, background, or role.
• Listen to coaches and officials without argument and accept decisions respectfully.
• Avoid negative comments, gestures, or actions toward others.
• Demonstrate self-control and integrity both on and off the field.
• Represent my team and LYL in a positive manner at all times.
Demonstrate Good Sportsmanship
• Compete with effort, enthusiasm, and respect.
• Encourage and support teammates through positive communication.
• Refrain from taunting, trash talk, teasing, name-calling, or behavior intended to embarrass, intimidate, or insult others.
• Avoid inappropriate language, gestures, or conduct on the field, in team settings, and online.
• Congratulate opponents and thank officials, coaches, and volunteers after games and events.
Prioritize Safety
• Use all required equipment properly and follow safety instructions from coaches and officials.
• Avoid dangerous, reckless, or intentionally harmful play.
• Report injuries, unsafe conditions, or safety concerns immediately.
• Never engage in fighting, physical retaliation, or aggressive behavior.
• Walk away from conflicts and seek assistance from coaches or officials when situations escalate.
• Help create a safe environment for all participants.
Be Responsible and Committed
• Arrive on time and prepared for practices, games, and team activities.
• Communicate absences to coaches whenever possible.
• Take responsibility for my actions and behavior.
• Represent my team and LYL respectfully both in person and on social media.
Prohibited Conduct
LYL strictly prohibits bullying, harassment, discrimination, and abuse of any kind.
Every participant has the right to feel safe, respected, and included. The following behaviors are prohibited:
• Bullying, including physical, verbal, social, or cyberbullying.
• Teasing, intimidation, exclusion, spreading rumors, or threatening behavior.
• Harassment or discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, disability, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic.
• Emotional, verbal, physical, or sexual abuse.
• Retaliation against any person who reports misconduct or participates in an investigation.
• The use, possession, distribution, or being under the influence of alcohol, tobacco products, vaping devices, marijuana, or illegal drugs at any LYL activity or event.
Players are encouraged to report any concerns regarding safety, bullying, harassment, discrimination, or abuse to a coach, LYL official, or trusted adult.
Acknowledgment
I understand that participation in LYL is a privilege. I agree to follow this Code of Conduct and understand that violations may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or removal from LYL activities.
